Obama Presses Two-State Solution in U.S.-Israel Talks

Curt Here...

Today President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today at the White House for their first face to face talks since both leaders came into office. During their meeting President Obama pressured Netanyahu to commit to a two state solution with the Palestinians.

As I suspected Netanyahu failed to commit to this idea, mainly because in the past the Palestinian people and the terrorist organization Hamas, have failed to recognize that Israel has the right to exist. Hamas has repeatedly stated their desire to wipe Israel of the face of the earth and there really are no signs that this mindset has changed. Netanyahu is right to not negotiate towards a two state solution until at the very least the Palestinians agree to let Israel live peacefully without fear of annihilation.

This of course does not look like it is going to happen anytime soon and it is the major problem that many world leaders have tried to solve over the past 60 years. Which brings me to where I think we might be today. Keep in mind that the following is just my opinion and of course I could be wrong.

If the ENP is the 7 year covenant as described in Daniel 9 than I suspect the following could occur. With the existing ENP agreement between the EU, and Israel already 2 1/2 years into the 7 year set time frame, and with a mid term review scheduled for June-July of 2010, I think we might have the agreement in place that forces Israel to finally make a decision on the whole two state solution discussion. You see, part of the ENP agreement is that Israel is required to make progress towards a two state solution by the mid-point of the 7 year agreement.

I suspect that Israel, under the leadership of Netanyahu will not agree to two state solution by next summer nor will they make significant progress towards this goal. Even though they will be under intense international pressure, Netanyahu recognizes the danger a two state solution is towards the future existance of his country. This will force the EU to act. With the approval of the UN, US and the rest of the world the EU will try to forcefully make Israel abide to their ENP agreement. This I believe will then snowball into the end time events that we see described in the Bible. The last 3 1/2 years and the Great Tribulation will start soon after.

If the ENP is the foretold covenant then we will also see the global economic situation continue to deteriorate, so at or soon after the mid-point the AC will have the ability to control who buys or sells.

Like I said earlier this could all be wrong, as only God knows all of the details of His Son's return. The ENP could very well not be the agreement that is described in the Bible, but as of right now I see nothing to disqualify it. But with time quickly running out on the ENP being the foretold covenant we should know pretty soon if the ENP has prophetic implications, and if it does not I will be here to say it.

One thing is for sure, there are signs all around us of our Saviour's soon return. What a great day that will be.

Obama presses two-state solution in U.S.-Israel talks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday pressed a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict but failed to win a commitment from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to back Palestinian statehood.

In their first White House talks, Obama also urged Netanyahu to freeze Jewish settlement building but sought to reassure Israelis wary about his overtures to Iran that he would not wait indefinitely for diplomatic progress toward curbing Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

The two leaders tried to paper over their differences as Obama waded into the thicket of Middle East diplomacy four months after taking office, but the divisions were hard to ignore between Israel and its superpower ally.

"It is in the interests not only of the Palestinians but also the Israelis, the United States and the international community to achieve a two-state solution," Obama told reporters with Netanyahu sitting beside him.

Netanyahu, who heads a new right-leaning Israeli coalition, reiterated that he supported self-government for the Palestinians but made no mention of a state, a position underscoring a rare rift in U.S.-Israeli relations.

"I did not say two states for two peoples," Netanyahu said later at a solo briefing with reporters.

"We need to deliberate to clarify this. Does it mean a Hamas state? I hope not. So how do I ensure it's not a Hamas state, an entity that threatens Israel security? I think that's a fundamental question," Netanyahu said.

Hamas Islamists, who have rejected Western calls to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept existing interim peace accords, took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, leaving Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas governing essentially only in the West Bank.

NETANYAHU DISAPPOINTS PALESTINIANS

Nabil Abu Rdainah, senior aide to Abbas, lauded Obama's commitment to a two-state solution, the cornerstone of U.S. Mideast policy, but called Netanyahu's words "disappointing."

Netanyahu's top staff members say how the Israeli leadership really feel about the two state solution.

Roni Sofer Published: 05.20.09, 18:25 / Israel News

'Fixation on two-state solution is childish'

Although the prime minister returns contented from his visit to Washington, his aides are already hard at work in bid to discredit US fixation on two-state plan. 'Two states for two peoples is a stupid and childish solution to a very complex problem,' they say

"This idea of two states for two peoples is a stupid and childish solution to a very complex problem," senior members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu staff said on Wednesday as the entourage made its way back to Israel from Washington.

They were determined to emphasize that Israel would continue to build in the larger settlement blocs and Jerusalem despite US President Barack Obama's resolute opposition.

Senior aide Ron Dermer later clarified that "when I say 'childish' I mean the media's obsession with the two-state plan, the fixation with that idea rather than focusing on the fundamental issues. I don't think that two-states for two peoples is a childish approach."

However another top advisor had no qualms with explicitly deriding the solution itself as "juvenile."

The prime minister sounded largely contented as his plane touched town at Ben Gurion Airport this afternoon, and he told reporters that he felt the visit had yielded progress on a number of important points.

"There is an understanding between the United States and Israel on the Iranian issue, that the development of nuclear arms must be prevented," Netanyahu said. "President Obama has made clear that the diplomatic efforts will not be limitless, and there is an understanding that Israel retains the right to defend itself."

As for the Palestinian track, the prime minister said that it was "agreed that peace talks can begin immediately. But I stressed that any peace agreement would have to accommodate Israel's security needs. We also agreed on the need to involve other Arab nations in the peace process, including Syria. The Arab states must also make tangible gestures, not only Israel and the Palestinians."

'Construction in Jerusalem won't stop'

The prime minister may have told the Obama administration that his government is prepared to renew negotiations with the Palestinians without delay and without preconditions, but he so far has not gone into detail as to what his alternative to the two-state plan may be.

Dermer assured reporters that the outline to Netanyahu's stance exists, he just chose not to launch it in Washington. "The plan is in the prime minister's head. He certainly knows what his bottom line is, where he wants this to go," the senior staffer added.

It's best, he said, to maintain some ambiguity ahead of the negotiations.

But alongside these statements that Netanyahu is ready to sit down with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas tomorrow, the prime minister's office has so far refused to commit to freezing construction in the larger settlement blocs.

National Security Advisor Uzi Arad said in Washington that Israel will not agree to any advance stipulations before the negotiations begin. "If this is about give and take, then what is the Palestinian side ready to give? You can't expect Israel alone to answer the Palestinians' demands time and again," said Arad.

Another Netanyahu staffer said that building to allow for natural growth will continue in Jerusalem and the settlement blocs Israel will keep in any final agreement. "The demands to stop construction hinge on the Palestinians fulfilling their obligations," he said.

Curt, We think your view on the signing of the peace agreement is so intriguing.

Okay, Jack Van Impe stated that the dividing of Israel is what will cause WWIII/Armageddon, according to Joel 3:2. This coincides with what you said that Netanyahu will probably not agree to the the 2-State Solution by mid Tribulation Period, causing all hell to break loose. Yet, according to Daniel 9:27, the Tribulation Period begins with the signing of the peace agreement.

Please give us your feelings.

Hello Dvora Communications,

Nice to have you on our blog.

I have been watching a seven year agreement between Israel and the EU called the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). It came into effect on January 1st, 2007 and It has a built in mid-term review.

On to your question. If the ENP is the prophesized covenant with many as described in Daniel 9:27, then I would suspect that somewhere around the mid-term review (June-July 2010) that the Anti-Christ would put a stop to sacrifices and grain offerings and the Great Tribulation would begin.

I do not believe the Tribulation has begun yet, but it is possible that the 70th week has. I know that might be splitting hairs, but I believe scripture only talks about a 3 1/2 year period of tribulation not 7, but the covenant is for 7 years.

I know that sounds confusing but here are some scriptures to support this idea.

Daniel 9:27

27. "And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."

This is the 70th week and the 7 years.

The AC puts a stop to sacrifice and grain offerings and the the AOD occurs at the midpoint, 3 1/2 years into the 7.

Mathew 24:15,21

15. "Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

21. "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

Great Tribulation begins at the midpoint, right after the AOD, 3 1/2 years into the 7.

Revelation 13:5

5. There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him.

Daniel 7:25

25. `He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

AC reigns and has power over the saints for 3 1/2 years, which is the same amount of time of the Great Tribulation.

I also believe that the dividing of Jerusalem will be the catalyst for the Great Tribulation. Which goes back to the scripture you posted.

Joel 3:2

2. I will gather all the nations
And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
Then I will enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
And they have divided up My land.

I hope this helps and your welcome to be part of this blog anytime.

Well if next June-July is the middle of the seven year agreement, wouldn't that mean the third temple would have to have been built by that time?

Hello Anonymous,

Please see my blog entry dated July 29th, 2009 and keep in mind that during the time of Moses and before the 1st Temple was built the Jewish people established a Holy Place and a sacrificial altar that was completely portable.

This was a tent like structure, but make no mistake about it was a place that was Holy and a place where daily sacrifices and offerings occurred. I see no reason to discount the idea that it could occur this way again today, especially in light of the passage from Ezra 3.

One last thought, obviously a new fully constructed Temple would also work and I still think this is possible.
