Isaiah 17
A Prophecy Against Damascus
17 A prophecy against Damascus:
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted
and left to flocks, which will lie down,
with no one to make them afraid.
3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim,
and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
like the glory of the Israelites,”
declares the Lord Almighty.

The Telegraph:
At the foreign ministers G8 summit, William Hague warns that Syria is "on
track to be the biggest humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century".
Hosting a meeting of the G8 foreign ministers in London, Mr Hague declared the
outside world must mount a much stronger intervention to curtail the crisis.
Britain invited four leaders of the Syrian
Opposition Coalition to be present on the sidelines of the meeting in an
effort to increase support for the regime's opponents.
"I will be joining and convening some of those meetings to discuss the
urgent humanitarian needs and the urgent need for a political and diplomatic
breakthrough," said Mr Hague. "This is turning into the greatest
humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century so far and we cannot watch this
happen."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus#Antiquity Describes Damascus coming under rule and reduced conditions to where nothing is known about it during neo babylonian times,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus#Mamluk_period a total sack and the city walls destroyed and a pile of skulls outside, rebuilt later and became a Mamluk provincial capital until AD 1516.
these events might be fulfillments.
